Neck Liposuction
in Tampa, FL

As we age, certain body areas may accumulate fat that is hard to lose despite a healthy diet and vigorous exercise. The neck is one such area. Fatty deposits can detract from the appearance of the entire body, making a younger person look older, or a fit individual seem out of shape. Liposuction gives the neck a streamlined contour, enhancing facial features and improving the profile. This minimally invasive surgery provides consistently good results and exceptionally high satisfaction rates.

What is a Neck Liposuction

What is a
Neck Liposuction?

Neck liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that removes fat deposits under the chin and along the jawline to reshape and contour the neck. It can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Dr. Solomon makes small incisions under the chin and inserts a cannula attached to a vacuum device to loosen and remove excess fat. Neck liposuction helps to define the jawline and create a slimmer neck profile by eliminating stubborn fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise. The procedure leaves minimal scarring since the small incisions are hidden under the chin.

If You Are Considering Neck Liposuction, Come in for a Consultation

The following information will provide an excellent introduction if you’re considering neck liposuction. For more details about how this procedure may help you, we recommend consulting Dr. Solomon, our top cosmetic facial surgeon. He will evaluate the amount and location of fat under the chin and neck, skin elasticity, and your aesthetic goals. Dr. Solomon will also review your medical history and any medications or supplements you take.

If cleared for surgery, you will be given pre-operative guidelines to follow, such as discontinuing certain medications that increase bleeding risks. The night before the procedure, patients may be instructed not to eat or drink anything after midnight (if general anesthesia will be used). Arrangements should also be made for a friend or family member to provide transportation after surgery and assist in at-home recovery for 1-2 days. Clearance from a primary care physician may also be required before undergoing neck liposuction.

Neck Liposuction SurgicalTechnique Overview

During liposuction, a small incision is made just below the chin, and excess fat is removed from the neck through a cannula. Dr. George Solomon prefers the tumescent (“superwet”) liposuction technique. This method involves injecting a solution of saline, a numbing agent, and a substance that controls bleeding. Tumescent liposuction may be a stand-alone procedure, but in most cases, it is combined with advanced technology, such as ultrasound, laser, or power-assisted cannulas.

Neck Liposuction Procedure Step by Step

Dr. Solomon marks the fat deposits to be removed from the patient’s neck. These signs act as a guide during the procedure.
Before the surgery begins, the patient is given general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. It keeps them comfortable and pain-free during the liposuction.
A tumescent solution consisting of saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine is injected into the fatty areas of the neck. This fluid swells the tissues, allows easier fat removal, minimizes blood loss, and provides local anesthesia.
Small incisions of less than 1 cm (0.3 inches) are made in inconspicuous areas, like under the chin or behind the ears. Dr. Solomon uses the best practices to minimize scarring.
A cannula attached to a vacuum device is inserted through the incisions to break up and suction excess fat cells. This can be done using the following techniques:
  • Ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL) – using a VASER device that emits ultrasonic waves
  • Laser-assisted liposuction (LAL) – with a thin laser fiber that melts fatty tissues
  • Power-assisted liposuction (PAL) – utilizing a mechanized cannula that moves back and forth in a controlled motion to dislodge fat

Dr. Solomon selects the most suitable technique based on the patient’s anatomy and aesthetic goals.

The incisions are closed with sutures, and the treated areas are dressed and bandaged to complete the procedure. Once the surgery is finished, the patient is moved to the recovery room.

Add-On Procedures

Dr. George Solomon often performs neck liposuction with a neck lift or facelift. Liposuction can greatly improve the patient’s look. It corrects the double chin and counteracts the natural aging process. A neck lift procedure can enhance these results by removing excess skin and creating a more defined facial appearance.

Chin Implant

In addition, some individuals may be candidates for a chin implant. Dr. Solomon often combines neck liposuction with this cosmetic enhancement to achieve better results. During the consultation, the appropriate assessments will be made to determine whether a lift or an implant will be needed to attain the desired outcomes.

Recovery After Neck Liposuction

Patients must arrange for someone to drive them home after neck liposuction. They usually have dressings, bandages, or a compression garment over the treated areas. Dr. Solomon provides post-procedure instructions on pain medication, changing dressings, activity restrictions, and nutrition. We recommend rest and limiting neck movement on the first day.
During week one, patients should continue resting as much as possible. Bruising, swelling, and discomfort are common. Patients must avoid any strenuous activity for at least 7 days. Dr. Solomon may recommend using cold compresses to help with swelling and discomfort. Patients should contact us with any concerns about bleeding, severe pain, fever, or other issues. However, these symptoms are exceptionally rare and can be easily managed in our office.
In the second week after neck liposuction, patients usually return to light daily activities and non-strenuous work. Swelling may increase slightly as people become more active. Discomfort typically decreases, but you might still have some bruising. A follow-up appointment is usually scheduled to monitor healing.
Over the next several weeks, the swelling continues to decrease. Any lingering bruises also fade. Patients can gradually resume their normal activities, including exercise. Scars from the small insertion sites heal and continue maturing. It may take about six months to recover and see the final results. Patients should listen to their bodies and not overexert themselves during this period. Following all of Dr. Solomon’s post-op instructions is crucial for the best possible outcome.

Are Results Permanent?

The fat cells removed during liposuction do not come back. However, patients who gain weight after surgery are at risk of regaining excess tissue. People who adhere to a healthy diet and exercise program will continue to see improvements years after their neck liposuction.
Individual results are not guaranteed and may vary from person to person. Images might contain models.
