Breast Augmentation Procedure

Tests and Consultation Before Surgery

The type of implant is chosen based on patient needs and aesthetic goals. It can be placed through incisions in the crease below the breast, around the areola, or in the armpit. The pocket can be located behind the breast gland tissue (subglandular), slightly deeper under the fascial connective tissue (subfascial), or beneath the pectoral muscle (subpectoral).

The Surgery

The entire operation takes 1-2 hours and includes the following procedures:

Anesthesia

A breast augmentation is performed under local anesthesia, which means that you will not be asleep during the surgery. The doctor may also decide to combine it with IV sedation. It will put you in the so-called “twilight state,” which resembles a light sleep. You will remain conscious but feel deep calm.

Incisions

Next, Dr. Solomon makes an incision, either under the breast, around the areola, or in the armpit area, depending on the physical characteristics, goals, and implant type.

Breast Implant Placement

A pocket is created either under the chest muscle or directly behind the breast tissue. The implant is then inserted into this area and positioned correctly.

Closing Incisions

Smoking can impair the body’s ability to heal properly, so candidates are generally advised to quit smoking prior to undergoing BBL surgery.

Recovery From Breast Augmentation

Recovery time after breast surgery is nearly 4-6 weeks. You must wear a compression garment all the time for the first 14 days to minimize swelling and support breasts as they heal. The period and complexity of your rehabilitation will be influenced by the size and position of your implants.

Most bruising and swelling should resolve within 14-21 days. However, some of these symptoms may persist for a few months. Patients are advised to avoid strenuous exercise and overhead arm movements for 4-6 weeks after surgery to avoid damaging the incision sites.

The body will absorb most stitches over time, but some may need removal around 1-2 weeks after surgery.
