Dr. Solomon Can Remove an Unsightly Lipoma
A lipoma is a growth of fat cells encapsulated in a thin, fibrous sac usually found just below under the skin. They can be found on any part of the body including torso, head, neck, upper thighs, upper arms, and armpits. When a lipoma occurs on the back of the head or the neck it is called “buffalo hump”.
Lipomas are the most common noncancerous soft tissue growth:
- Slow growing, fatty lump
- Mobile and “squishy” to the touch
- Not usually tender
- Most common in middle age
- Some have more than one at a time
- Harmless and can go untreated
- If a lipoma is bothersome, painful, or growing, it can be removed.
Treatment and Removal
Lipomas can be removed by Dr. George Solomon at Solomon Cosmetic Center in Clearwater, FL. Dr. Solomon will first inject a local anesthetic like lidocaine around the lipoma and then make an incision in the skin to remove the growth. Once removed, he closes the incision with some sutures.
Sometimes if the lipoma is large, Dr Solomon will remove it using a Vaser® machine. The Vaser® machine combines ultrasound and massage to break up and melt the fat inside the capsule. Dr. Solomon can then remove the fat using a small cannula without leaving any large incisions or big cuts in the skin.
Every patient is unique; therefore results may vary.
