Is A Facelift Right for You?
A facelift can reverse the effects of gravity on the face and make you look younger and fresher. As we age, we experience the effects of gravity and age-related changes. Stress, wear and tear, and lifestyle factors also contribute to the unwanted changes in our faces such as deep creases, lines, wrinkles, folds and fat deposits. Wrinkles and loose, sagging skin happen to everyone. But it’s easier than ever to make a lasting change in your appearance, and if you’re like many men and women, a facelift in the Tampa Bay Area performed by Dr. George Solomon at Solomon Cosmetic Center in Clearwater, FL, can help you do just that. Men and women in their 40s and older commonly decide to “turn back the clock” by having a facelift.
A facelift involves removing excess fat and skin from the face, tightening relaxed muscles, and re-draping the skin over the face and neck. A facelift can be done on its own or along with other facial procedures such as a browlift or eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), or a neck lift for full facial rejuvenation. The results give you a more youthful appearance, with smoother, tighter skin, while removing the unwanted lines, wrinkles, and folds.
Checklist of Concerns
If you are dissatisfied with the visible signs of aging in your face and neck, then you are a candidate for a facelift. This surgical procedure can make you look younger by correcting signs of aging such as deep creases around the mouth or eyelids, loose skin or excess fat creating a double chin, loss of muscle causing jowls, or sagging cheeks.
The cost of a facelift can vary in price across the country. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost of a facelift was $7,048 in 2016. That’s more than half off! You may wonder how Dr. Solomon can offer at such a low price. Dr. Solomon is a very experienced cosmetic surgeon and has performed hundreds of facelift surgeries. One of the main differences is that you don’t have to pay expensive hospital fees because he has a licensed surgical suite at his office location in Clearwater, FL.
About the Procedure
Commonly, this procedure places the incision along the hairline, where excess skin is pulled up, trimmed away, and tightly secured. Dr. Solomon strives to create a natural result that meets the patient’s aesthetic goals. There are various techniques used today to perform a facelift. Facial anatomy, skin laxity and the overall aesthetic goal of the patient will determine the best approach. Each procedure will be unique to the patient and will vary based on the type and location of the incision, the number of tissue layers affected, the plane of elevation and the level of invasiveness.
The length of the surgery will vary, but it generally takes between 3-4 hours.
Aftercare and Recovery
Because a full facelift is considered an outpatient procedure, patients can begin the recovery process in the comfort of their own home the same day as surgery. After the procedure, a loose-fitting dressing is applied. Typically, there is little to no discomfort after surgery; however, if pain is present it can easily be controlled with over-the-counter medication. Discoloration and bruising is a normal part of the recovery process and generally fades within seven days. To help with the recovery process, Dr. Solomon suggests that patients do the following
- Keep the head elevated as much as possible
- Avoid taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatories
- Avoid strenuous activities for 2 to 3 weeks
- Be gentle with facial and hair care due to tenderness
- Camouflage makeup can be worn to cover bruising
- Keep scheduled follow-up appointments after surgery
After surgery, patients experience bruising and swelling. The neck will feel tight. This will gradually improve within a few days. It is common for patients to feel anxious about how their face will appear. Patients need to understand it can take several full months for the final results to appear.
Many times, Dr. Solomon will tell the patient that he/she doesn’t really need a full facelift. Instead, he will recommend a mini facelift. A good candidate for a mini facelift is someone between 40 and 55 with early signs of aging. The benefits of a mini facelift are a quicker recovery time and about half the cost of a full facelift. The mini facelift concentrates on the lower 1/3 of the face and includes the neck and jowls. Learn more+
BOTOX®, Juvederm, Radiesse, Restylane, Beletero, microdermabrasion, and chemical peels are examples of some non-surgical procedures that can assist in smoothing out wrinkles, improving fine lines and adding facial volume. Using these products together to achieve tighter, more youthful skin is often referred to as a liquid facelift. These procedures also help to even out skin tone. However, these are treatments that will only affect the skin’s surface. Patients with loose skin, drooping jowls or a sagging neck will need to consider surgery if they want these features improved.
Each patient is unique; therefore, results of treatment may vary.
