What is the Mommy Makeover?
Dr. Solomon explains what procedures typically make up the Mommy Makeover, and what it really means to him:
What is a Mommy Makeover? So, mostly women who are finished with having babies, in their late thirties or mid-thirties, or sometimes maybe early thirties, that because of the pregnancy, they have now weakness in the abdominal muscles, they have maybe excess skin, they have maybe excess fat, and one and most importantly is also the breasts. During pregnancy the breast enlarges because of the effect of the estrogen, and someone maybe go from size B to a size D, and then after the pregnancy’s over, then it gets deflated. And now, because of that, then you have droopier breasts, their not as supple as they used to be.
You know, everybody has a different definition of Mommy Makeover. In general, it’s really: Tummy Tuck, Liposuction, basically addressing the laxity of the skin in the abdomen or the extra fat they accumulated. In addition to that is the breast, the deflated breasts. Whether they needed a breast lift or just breast augmentation to fill in the volume that they have lost. To me, Mommy Makeover is whatever mommy wants to make her look good. You know, not every woman needs a Tummy Tuck, or Liposuction and a Breast.
Some women may need just one, some may need all three, or some may need something totally different. Maybe she needs something in the face; maybe she has a melasma after pregnancy that she wants to address. Or maybe she has a loss of volume in the face or nasolabial folds that she needs fillers. Maybe she didn’t gain much weight during pregnancy, and she only gained the appropriate amount is 10 or 15 pounds or something and then after that, her skin retracted.
This all varies depending on how many babies you have, the type of skin you have, the amount of weight you gained during pregnancy, etc. But to me it’s what the client wants to make her look both good and also make her feel good about herself.
