Full Tummy Tuck

At Solomon Cosmetic Center in Tampa, a tummy tuck is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed by Dr. George Solomon. This procedure is performed to remove excess fat and skin from the stomach. It is also known as an abdominoplasty. Everyone wants a flat, toned stomach, but sometimes, diet and exercise are not enough. That is why tummy tucks are so popular. Aging, pregnancy, heredity, extreme weight loss and prior surgery can cause a person to develop loose, sagging skin.

The full tummy tuck treats two conditions:

  • a muscle separation above and below the belly button
  • excessive or loose skin in the belly

It is really two operations, a muscle repair and a skin excision. The skin excision part is called a Dermatolipectomy. All the skin between the belly button and pubic mound is taken out. Thus it can take care of all the stretch marks below the belly button. The skin above the belly button is stretched to reach the top of the pubic mound. Any stretch marks above the belly button will come to lie just above the pubic mound.

With a complete tummy tuck, the patient usually has liposuction around the love-handle area and a drastic reshaping of the entire midsection. Results can be amazing! However, it does require a scar that goes from hip bone to hip bone. However, Dr. Solomon can usually place the scar below the panty line. Sometimes the scar can be slightly shorter. It really depends on the individual and Dr. Solomon will explain to you all of your options.

Full Tummy Tuck or Mini Tummy Tuck?

For some patients, a full tummy tuck may not be necessary. In those cases, a mini-tummy may give you the desired results. It usually depends on how much loose skin and fat need to be removed. Also, in a full tummy tuck, Dr. Solomon has to tighten the underlying muscles. You and Dr. Solomon can discuss what your options might be. To learn more about Mini Tummy Tuck click here+

Candidates for a Tummy Tuck

Healthy people with realistic expectations are considered good candidates for this procedure. People who are interested in getting this procedure should also be non-smokers. Furthermore, women who want to get this procedure should wait until they have finished having children. It is important to note that some patients may be required to get liposuction in concert with an abdominoplasty so that they can get the best results.

About the Procedure

Dr. Solomon will make a horizontal incision between the navel and pubic hairline. The length and shape of the incision will depend on the extent of the procedure. Dr. Solomon will be able to remove the excess skin, tissue, and fat through this incision and repair any weakened abdominal muscles. Dr. Solomon may be required to make another incision around the navel so that excess skin and fat can be removed from the upper abdomen as well.

Aftercare and Recovery

Dr. Solomon will give you specific instructions on things that you will need to do to speed up the recovery process. You will be advised to avoid using nicotine products for at least one month after surgery. You will need to limit physical activity several for up to six weeks. Many patients may have to take several weeks up to a month off work. As recovery time can vary from patient to patient, Dr. Solomon will provide an individualized plan to help you recover quickly and completely.

Cost of a Tummy Tuck

There are a number of factors that affect the cost of this operation. The cost of this surgery may include a surgeon’s fee, anesthesia fee, medical tests and post-surgery garments. Dr. Solomon will discuss the price with you during your consultation.
