Botox & Facial Fillers

What’s the difference between Botox and facial fillers?

Botox is used to treat and eliminate wrinkles on either sides of the eyes, the brow and frown lines between the eyes. Botox is made of a protein that blocks nerve impulses when injected into the facial muscles under the skin, Botox can diminish the appearance of fine lines and crow’s feet that occur with natural aging. By blocking the nerve impulses used in making facial expressions, Botox Cosmetic weakens facial muscles in the treated area and makes them relax. Once relaxed, your skin will flatten, diminishing any wrinkle or fine line.

Facial fillers aid in filling out areas of the face that have become lax or sunken due to the aging process.  They can also be used to add support and contour for fuller, shapelier lips, cheeks, and more. Facial filler procedures are often quick, with little to no downtime, making them an appealing option for busy people on-the-go. Solomon Cosmetic Center offers a variety of facial filler options including Beletero, Juvederm, Juvederm Volluma XC, Radiesse, Restylane and Sculptra. Dr. Solomon will help you make the decision on which of these products are best suited for your desired outcome.

What is a Facial Filler?

Fillers, which come in a variety of materials, are injected into the depression or crease in a wrinkled area. We classify them as temporary, semi-permanent, and permanent. In general, Dr. Solomon uses fillers to replace volume, which then helps to restore a natural, rested look. Unfortunately, we associate a sunken, gaunt look with age and disease, whereas we are all attracted to the youthful fullness of a face that has retained its curves and a supple appearance. Some fillers fit the definition of a non-extreme treatment we offer to help individuals to look good quickly and make a good first impression. Some filler treatments can be done in minutes in the office with very little downtime. Most of the newer filler agents available today can provide a great youthful look by the coming weekend.

We sometimes use fillers in combination with other treatments. A Botox® Cosmetic injection, followed by a filler and laser treatment, is one of the most common combination treatments and is a fast way to make an improved first impression. Both men and women seek injectables to restore their youthful appearance without drastically altering their looks, in order to enhance their attractiveness and self-confidence in their social and personal lives, and in today’s competitive workplace and business environment. Interest in fillers has increased as thinking evolves from using surgical tightening procedures towards the direction of what we call volume replacement.
