What is a Breast Reduction?
At Solomon Cosmetic Center, breast reduction is an cosmetic surgery for Tampa patients who wish to have excess skin and fat tissue removed from their overly large breasts. Studies have shown that breast reduction patients are the happiest of all plastic surgery patients. Breast reduction is not just about improving your appearance. For you, this procedure may alleviate back and neck pain and improve your ability to exercise.
Am I a candidate for a breast reduction?
You may be a candidate for breast reduction surgery if the size and weight of your breasts cause back pain, neck pain, or skin irritation beneath your breasts. Also, if you are overly self conscious about the size of your breasts or restricted in how much you can exercise, breast reduction surgery may be needed.
What to expect during a breast reduction?
While the technique of your breast reduction procedure will vary due to the specific plan created for you by Dr. George Solomon, excess skin and fat tissue will be removed while the areola and nipple will be shifted to a higher position. Areolas that have been stretched over time can be reduced in size. Typically, the areola and nipple are left connected to the underlying tissue, leaving the milk glands unaffected and allowing for breast feeding. Excess skin previously located above the areola can be used to reshape the breast. Typically, patients will be placed under general anesthesia.
What is the recovery time for a breast reduction?
While the incisions will be visible, they will fade over time. You will experience swelling, discoloration, and tightness, around the treated areas. You may also experience numbness in the nipple and areola areas. Surgical drains inserted during the procedure will be removed a few days after surgery. You will need to wear a special support bra for few weeks after the surgery and sleep on your back. Most patients return to work within a week and can resume normal activities including light exercise after several weeks. Aside from a large shift in weight or pregnancy, the results of your procedure should remain stable. However, the natural aging process will continue to change the shape and size of your breasts over time. Dr. Solomon and the entire Tampa staff will be there to help with your recovery from your breast reduction procedure.
