Brazilian Butt Lift and Weight Loss

The Brazilian Butt Lift procedure is becoming one of Solomon Cosmetic Center’s most popular cosmetic surgery services. Curvy derrieres and slender waists seem to be the new body shape women aspire to achieve. And for many, no amount of exercise, spot treatment, or diet modifications can create that curvy objective. Much of your figure depends on how and where you store fat. And the fact is, many of us accumulate the pounds around the waist and lower back, while the backside remains marginally sloping.

So, you’ve opted for the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure. One of the questions you may be pondering, and should ask Dr. Solomon to elaborate on, is this: “What happens if I lose weight after surgery? Will weight loss ruin the results of my Butt Lift?”

Foundation of the Brazilian Butt Lift

A Brazilian Butt Lift takes harvested fat from other areas of your body (waist, abdomen, lower back, bra bulge) and injects it into the muscle of the buttock to reshape and enhance its appearance. All of these areas are altered when the excess fat is removed and transferred. As the surrounding areas are reduced in size, your buttocks will immediately look somewhat larger proportionately even before your fat is injected into them.

Dr. Solomon approaches this procedure as creating smoother, shapelier contours not only on your bottom, but also in areas where the fat was harvested. It’s not just about the fat that is sucked out, or the fat that is injected back into the buttocks, it’s a fine balance of where to reduce and where to augment. In essence Dr. Solomon is sculpturing a new surface. And everyone is different.

How Weight Affects the Procedure’s Baseline

As with all liposuction procedures, weight does influence body contouring results. It is recommended that significant weight loss programs be undertaken prior to surgery, as a dramatic weight loss or gain has the potential to affect your proportions whether or not you have had any kind of cosmetic surgery to reduce or enhance a portion of your body. However, in order for the Brazilian Butt Lift to be most effective, you do need to have enough fat on your waist, abdomen, love handles, hips and even inner or outer thighs to ultimately produce enough fat volume for between 280 to 550 cc per buttock. Obviously, the actual amount of fat needed to improve the contour of the buttocks varies from patient to patient. As a rule of thumb, a person within about 25 pounds of their ideal weight guidelines is a good candidate.

How Does Weight Affect the Outcome?

While maintaining a fairly stable weight is important in any type of body contouring surgery, current research indicates that if your weight fluctuates moderately up or down after your procedure, generally your Brazilian Butt Lift outcome will not be negatively affected.

It is estimated that usually more than half of the amount of fat that Dr. Solomon has treated and injected will survive the process and begin to assumes the same characteristics as the native buttock fatty tissue. The transferred fat develops the same receptors on its cell surface that the native buttock fat has. The beauty of the procedure is that transferred fat results are long-lasting.

However, these cells will respond to weight loss and gain just like prior to the procedure. Specifically, when you gain weight, your fat cells get bigger, and the opposite occurs when you lose weight, your fat cells get smaller. So, depending on how you store and lose fat, if your rear end volume diminished when you lost weight pre – Brazilian Butt Lift, it stands to reason that your rear end will also proportionately shrink in volume when you lose weight after the procedure. But the big difference is that after the procedure you will still have more fat cells in your buttocks than before, so the volume change is not anticipated to be extremely significant. Your buttocks will still be the size and shape they were post surgery in proportion to the size of the rest of your body.
